"You, or your child, might have a grandmother that lives in Florida. You, or your child, might not. Regardless, there is a relationship between grandmothers and their grandchildren unlike any other, and that connection is what Verona-based author Ed Shankman and Montclair-based illustrator Dave O'Neill sought to capture on the pages of their newest book . . ."

"Author Ed Shankman and illustrator Dave O'Neill have done a fantastic job in creating this fun book for children ages two to seven. In this book - My Grandma Lives in Florida - young readers can follow a child on his visit to his grandmother's house in Florida. The book uses Seussian rhymes and rhythms, affectionate humor, and dazzling illustrations to present a child's-eye view of the grandmother/grandson relationship. Although meant for young children, I loved reading the book and admired the colorful illustrations - and, my grandchild keeps asking me to read the book to him over and over again.
The book is also permeated by Florida's sunny disposition. One fine example reads "That sun warms each beach it can reach/And rest assured, it reaches each/It shines on every manatee/From Tampa Bay to Longboat Key." Both men believe this fable will capture the hearts of children and grandmother's everywhere (It did mine!)."
“Seeing the green scaly skin and long snouts on the characters, you might not guess at first that Ed Shankman’s latest book is about a child’s visit to his grandmother in the Sunshine State — inspired, in fact, by his own two Jewish bubbes, one assimilated and sophisticated, the other the embodiment of Yiddishkeit to her core.
‘Both these women were amazingly influential in my life, taught me all kinds of stuff, and showered me with unconditional love and appreciation,’ he told NJ Jewish News. ‘The grandma in the story is a composite of them both.’
In My Grandma Lives in Florida, done with illustrator Dave O’Neill, adoring old ladies and gators get merrily blended through rhyme.”

"One of the reasons I love My Grandma Lives in Florida, is because it touches on pieces of my own personal story. I had a grandma that used to live in Florida when I was young, and I remember vividly our visits to see her, and the amazing adventure I always had when I was there with her at the beach or having breakfast with her and her friends. I cherish those times now that my grandmother is no longer with us, and this book brought back a flood of precious memories."
"Read this book and smile. My Grandma Lives in Florida by Ed Shankman, illustrated by Dave O'Neill, chronicles in rhyming verse the traditional visit to Florida during the winter. Here, the grandmother, son and grandson are a loving trio of alligators. The book speaks to that powerful connection between grandmothers and grandchildren, full of its own distinctive gestures and language and pleasure."
— The Jewish Week
The many rhymes that generously grace the pages of My Grandma Lives in Florida will captivate any child for hours on end. This book is unique . . . not like all the other ‘bed time stories for kids.’ Happy and Entertaining. The graphics are exquisitely detailed . . . all small children will pleasantly be entertained with fun hours of reading.”
"When I found Shankman and O'Neill I felt like I had found a lost treasure . . . what they have to offer is worthy of being on a children's classic list. Trust me, we read a lot of books around here and Shankman and O'Neill are in a league of their own."
"The rhythmic writings of Ed Shankman and the cuddly illustrations from Dave O'Neill have come to feel like old friends here at our house."
